Mixing music, thoughts and a love of this polysemic* word, The Adventures in Concrete Show digs deep into themes of maintenance, courage, care and construction that we find in moments and movements of r(adical)evolution. #AdventuresInConcrete started in 2020 as a hashtag to document construction and maintenance work, which often goes unnoticed and undervalued, and elevate it to its rightful position as valuable, creative and transformational. “Concrete” is explored in this series through pioneers of musique concrète, maintenance of revolutionary change, building new worlds and lifting the concrete ceiling for collective liberation. * a polysemic word is a word that has multiple meanings. In the case of concrete: as a building material; a description meaning something definite and not abstract; and to form or solidify (something). Presenter Bio Eva Rowson is an artist, curator and Managing Director of Bergen Kjøtt, a cultural venue in Bergen´s Skuteviken neighbourhood. Located in a former brick and concrete factory building built in 1905, Bergen Kjøtt today is one of Norway´s largest non-profit creative production houses for music and sound, with a focus on cultivating the sustainable and equitable development of the Norwegian cultural industry. In 2021, Eva co-founded GRIP at Bergen Kjøtt – an initiative to train and empower more women, non-binary and transgender sound and light technicians. In this radio series, Eva starts with her own approach to creating an inclusive, accessible and experimental institution - which has involved a lot of care, maintenance and construction: #AdventuresInConcrete.
